What is Kiwanis?
Founded in 1915 and headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, Kiwanis International is a thriving organization of service- and community-minded individuals who support children and young adults around the world. More than 600,000 Kiwanis-family members in 89 countries make their mark by responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their resources to address worldwide issues. Through these efforts, Kiwanis International truly is "Serving the Children of the World."

What is the goal of Kiwanis?
To actively involve business and community leaders in reaching out to make a difference in the lives of others in our community. The Houston Sunrise Kiwanis Club is committed to building the leadership skills of students in our sponsored youth organizations and teaching them to give back to the community through volunteerism and service.

What are sponsored youth organizations?
Kiwanis sponsored youth organizations are age-specific service clubs that are organized and sponsored by local Kiwanis clubs. These clubs include K-Kids for elementary school children, Builders Club for middle school students, Key Club for high school, Circle K for college, and Aktion Club for adults with disabilities.

Monthly membership dues for our Club are $30, which includes breakfast at each meeting, membership materials, and subscriptions to the Club bulletin, Kiwanis International magazine and the Texas-Oklahoma District newsletter. Applicants are also asked to pay a one-time initiation fee of $30.

What are the opportunities for membership?

  • You can serve your community by working with individuals who share in your vision and passion for helping children and youth.
  • You can achieve the enormous personal satisfaction that comes from contributing in a worthwhile way.
  • You can enjoy the camaraderie and natural fellowship that results from mutual efforts directed toward the achievement of important goals.
  • You can take pride in affiliation with an organization of hundreds of thousands of members around the world, who feel as you feel and act as you act.
  • You can expand your networking opportunities and increase your sphere of influence.

You, too, can feel the sense of pride and achievement common to all "who wear the K."

What is expected of members of the Houston Sunrise Kiwanis club?
As a member of our Club, you are asked to attend meetings regularly, help with club service projects and fundraising events, and find a special area of service within our club. You are encouraged to attend Kiwanis annual conventions, such as the International Convention and the Texas-Oklahoma District Convention. Ultimately, you may be asked to serve on one of our standing committees, on our Board of Directors, or as a Club officer.
